Nude News Around the UK – February 2019

Naturism, Natural Lifestyles, Naked Bodies – they have all hit the headlines in the past few weeks, around the UK. Naturism in the UK is reported to be on the increase; natural cosmetics brand, Lush, has opened a “naked store” in Manchester, and a Cambridge economist has challenged Brexiteer Jacob Rees-Mogg to a naked debate. We have also been in the news ourselves this month, appearing in LADbible and various local and regional newspapers and magazines across the country. Did you happen to spot us?

In this edition of our blog, we bring you a recap of some of the top “Nude News” stories so far in 2019.

Lush Opens Plastic-Free ‘Naked’ Store in Manchester

Cosmetics brand Lush has always been renowned for its innovative products and use of natural ingredients, but they have taken that idea one step further by opening a ‘Naked’ store in Manchester which is completely free of plastic packaging. You will still find all your favourite Lush produts – shampoo bars, bath bombs, soaps and more, just without any unnecessary packaging!

During the launch day in Manchester, Lush staff posed naked, with aprons carrying the slogan “Ask Me Why I’m Naked” to raise publicity for the campaign.

Product inventor Alesandro Commisso says: “Reducing packaging is something Lush has been working on for many, many years. From the very first day over 20 years ago, our products were naked, but now we see a bigger movement against plastic and against waste. Alongside that, now we are able to fill up a whole shop with skincare, body care, hair care and bath bombs, while still providing that five star experience.”

Naturist Club Membership On The Increase

At the end of 2018, The Telegraph reported that membership of British Naturism, the UK’s official naturist members’ club, had risen for the first time in 15 years. The rise has been linked to a programme of public events to raise awareness and remove any taboos surrounding the naturist lifestyle.

Andrew Welch, British Naturism’s commercial manager, explains that prudish attitudes towards nudity are evaporating while businesses have become increasingly open to hosting their own ‘bare all’ events. He says: “There is a much less of a taboo when it comes to naturism.  In the past if you told people you were a naturist there would be raised eyebrows, but now people are much more aware of what it is.”

Wild Swimming Clubs Offer a New Natural High.

Wild winter swimming is the latest craze this year, with clubs popping up all over the country, from Devon to the Scottish Highlands, as reported in The Guardian. It involves immersing yourself in outdoor pools, lakes and seas, during the depths of winter. It is said to bring health benefits including improved circulation and relief from muscular pain.

Facebook Bans Images of Nude Statues

A Geneva art museum was banned from promoting an upcoming show on Facebook, using an image of one of the nude statues from the exhibition. The Museum of Art and History was disappointed that the images were removed. However, Facebook responded by saying ” We don’t allow ads that depict nudity, even if it isn’t sexual in nature. This includes the use of nudity for artistic or educational purposes.”
